Is AST SpaceMobile a Buy at $69? Three New Satellites, $1.15 Billion of New Debt, and a $50 Target

Is AST SpaceMobile a buy at $69? Three BlueBird satellites just launched, Japan service started, and even the bank that upgraded ASTS targets $50.80, 27% below the price. Not here.

TL;DR

  • Not at $69. The execution is finally real, and the price got there years ahead of the revenue.
  • The month's genuine wins: BlueBird satellites 11, 12 and 13 launched August 5 on a Falcon 9, the largest commercial communications arrays ever put in low Earth orbit, and direct-to-cellular service began in Japan, driving a 10.7% single-day jump.
  • The funding to keep going: $1.15 billion of 1.625% convertible notes due 2034, closed this month.
  • The detail that frames the whole decision: Scotiabank upgraded the stock and set a $50.80 target, and the shares trade at $69.53. Even the newly constructive bank prices ASTS 27% below its market price.

Is AST SpaceMobile a Buy at $69?

No, and the Scotiabank upgrade is the cleanest way to see why. When an analyst turns more positive and still lands 27% below the market, the disagreement is not about whether AST executes, it is about what execution is already worth. At $69, the market prices satellites-to-standard-phones as a solved, scaled business. In August 2026 it is a brilliantly progressing engineering programme with early commercial service in one country and a constellation still being assembled one Falcon 9 at a time.

Retail attention makes this worse as an entry, not better: ASTS is one of the most-mentioned names on the boards this month, and crowd-owned story stocks trade on launch photos in both directions. The same enthusiasm that adds 10% on a Japan announcement subtracts it on a launch delay, and satellite programmes always, eventually, have a delay.

The convertible raise is honest dual-purpose news. Terms this cheap, 1.625% out to 2034, mean lenders believe; the strike embedded in the convert also means dilution is scheduled if the stock performs. Space is capital-hungry, this will not be the last raise, and each one is priced off wherever the shares sit that quarter, which is the quiet argument for owning it cheaper than the crowd does.

The Ledger to Watch

  • Coverage milestones: each country activation (Japan now, others pending) converts spectrum agreements into billable service.
  • Constellation count: BlueBirds 11-13 are up; continuous coverage needs the full block flying, and the launch cadence is the schedule risk.
  • Revenue per carrier deal: the MNO partnerships are the business model; the first disclosures of material recurring carrier revenue re-rate the stock more than any launch.

The entry that would interest me is the standard story-stock discount: a launch slip or a quiet quarter that knocks the price toward the level the bullish analysts can defend, around that $50 zone, with the constellation progress intact. Results were due August 10, so the next read on all of this arrives immediately.

The One-Line Read

AST SpaceMobile is executing a genuinely historic engineering programme, and at $69 the stock has already spent the next two years of that success: with the friendliest new analyst target 27% below the price and dilution structurally scheduled, the call is no here, yes near the levels the believers can actually underwrite.
